‘Beef factories stating they have no shortage of beef may be somewhat exaggerated’

Kilkenny Mart – Cattle Prices – 01-06-2023

According to George Candler, a smaller entry comprising some 620 lots came under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, June 1st, 2023.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that cull cows and heifers met with a full clearance, while 98% of bullocks found new homes.

He reported: “All numbers were small as many farmers are concentrating on silage or haymaking.”

“Beef animals, plus forward stores were in very short supply, which may well suggest that factories stating that they have no shortage of beef may be somewhat exaggerated,” he remarked.
