Approximately 200 sheep, mostly hoggets and a limited number of spring lambs, were available for sale at Kilkenny Mart on Monday (April 6th).
Lots were sold on a per kilo basis with up to €3.00/kg forked out for lambs, while hoggets climbed to €2.40/kg, according to the mart’s auctioneer, George Candler.
“Hoggets were paid up to 52 kilos live-weigh with lambs to 42 kilos live-weight.” he explained.
Calf sale
On Tuesday (April 7th), the mart operated a tender process for calves with a full clearance recorded.
“Sellers dropped off their calves with relevant ID cards and did not exit their vehicles. Mart staff penned their animals once that was completed.”
“We allowed potential buyers a 15-minute period to tender a price in which they were interested. No more than four buyers were allowed in at a designated time which was strictly adhered to.” the auctioneer added.
On completion of the tender process, the highest secured their animals after consultation with sellers.
