Kilkenny Mart – sheep prices – 27-09-2021

According to George Candler, some 600 entries were on offer at Kilkenny Mart’s sheep sale on Monday, September 127^th.

The mart’s auctioneer reported a “good, solid trade” for all entries, with more interest for butcher and factory-type lambs.

He noted that cull ewes peaked at €158/head while breeding hoggets climbed to €240/head and breeding rams peaked at €610/head.

Speaking following the sale, Candler said: “A good, lively trade for all lambs, especially the well-fleshed butcher and factory-types. Store lambs are still selling well.”

Butcher lambs – €2.45-€2.82/kg or €132-€146/head:

• 10 59kgs – €146;
• 8 55kgs – €146;

Factory lambs – €2.60-€2.79/kg or €111-€131/head:

• 10 47kgs – €131;
• 22 46kgs – €128;
• 7 44kgs – €119;
• 8 43kgs – €115;
• 8 42kgs – €113;
• 10 41kgs – €111.

Store lambs – €2.60-€3.09/kg or €80-€111/head:

• 8 39kgs – €107;
• 18 36kgs – €111 – ewe lambs;

• 10 34kgs – €102;

• 7 31kgs – €86.

According to George Candler, a smaller entry comprising some 650 lots were on offer at Kilkenny Mart on Monday, September 20^th, 2021.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that store lambs sold “well” and “trade remained steady for all lots” at the weekly sheep sale.
