Cull ewes to €242 and spring lambs to €183 at Kilkenny

According to George Candler, some 500 lots came under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart on Monday, May 23^rd, 2022.

The mart’s auctioneer reported an “excellent” trade for spring lambs with prices to €183/head. Cull ewes also recorded a full clearance with tops of €242/head.

Butcher lambs – €2.80-€3.86/kg or €169-€183/head:

• 2 65kgs – €183;
• 18 53kgs – €182;
• 18 52kgs – €180;
• 17 50kgs – €179;
• 12 49kgs – €179;
• 8 47kgs – €173.

Factory lambs – €3.65-€3.95/kg or €150-€169/head:

• 8 46kgs – €169;
• 10 45kgs – €168;
• 13 44kgs – €170;
• 17 43kgs – €167;
• 9 42kgs – €166;
• 21 40kgs – €152.

Other categories:

• Cast ewes – €100-€242/head.

Last week’s sheep prices

According to George Candler, some 350 lots came under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart’s most recent sheep sale on Monday, May 16^th, 2022.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that a “good, solid” trade prevailed, with spring lambs to €184/head and cull ewes to €274/head.

• Butcher lambs – €3.25-€3.77/kg or €165-€184/head;
• Factory lambs – €3.75-€3.90/kg or €145-€166/head;
• Cast ewes – €120-€274/head.

Last week’s cattle prices

According to George Candler, some 850 lots came under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, May 18^th, 2022.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that “another good yard of cattle experienced no let-up in the strong trade we have been experiencing over the past few weeks”.

“All cattle are now in demand with Friesian bullocks to €2.75/kg. Cull cows attracted a top call of €2,660, while bullocks peaked at €2,820 and heifers sold to €2,350,” Candler remarked.
