Kilkenny Mart – sheep prices – 20-12-2021

According to George Candler, some 400 lots went under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart’s sheep sale on Monday, December 20^th, 2021.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that all sheep met with a “good, steady” trade.

He added that lambs sold to a top call of €170, while cull ewes peaked at €150/head.

He noted that “the sheep trade continues to perform well with prices holding firm”. “Customers for store lambs not as plentiful as other weeks,” the auctioneer remarked.

Butcher lambs – €3.05-€3.27/kg or €150-€170/head:

• 10 54kgs – €170;
• 18 53kgs – €170;
• 11 52kgs – €169;
• 10 51kgs – €163;
• 31 50kgs – €156;

Factory lambs – €3.10-€3.36/kg or €130-€154/head:

• 20 47kgs – €154;
• 13 46kgs – €150;
• 8 45kgs – €150;

• 8 42kgs – €132.

Store lambs – €2.90-€3.32/kg or €90-€125/head:

Last week’s cattle sale

Kilkenny Mart finished 2021 on a “high” note with an “excellent” trade at its final cattle sale of the year on Thursday, December 16^th, 2021.

That is according to livestock auctioneer, George Candler, who reported that some 750 entries, including over 200 cull cows, passed through the rings.

Summary:

• Bullocks 600kgs+ – €1.80-€2.60/kg or €970-€2,010/head;
• 500-600kgs – €1.75-€2.62/kg or €930-€1,560/head;
• 400-500kgs – €1.80-€1.76/kg or €820-€1,350/head;
• Beef heifers – €2.10-€2.43/kg or €1,060-€1,490/head;
• Forward stores – €190-€2.57/kg or €880-€1,170/head;
• Light store heifers – €1.70-€2.51/kg or €480-€990/head.

Cull cows:

• First-rate Friesians – €1.40-€2.00/kg;
• Second-rate Friesians – €0.78-€1.30/kg;
• Continental cull cows – €1.50-€2.55/kg. Top price: €2,150 for 900kg entry.
