Last week’s cattle prices

According to George Candler, a smaller entry of just over 600 lots came under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart’s general cattle sale on Thursday, March 9th, 2023.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that trade remained “very strong”, with prices to €2,500 in the bullock ring and heifers to €2,180.

He commented: “We had a smaller entry on Thursday due to snow, but we had a 99% clearance, as thankfully, conditions did not prevent potential buyers from travelling.”

“It has been suggested that factories have reduced quotes, but the trade around the ring on Thursday would suggest a slight increase for quality bullocks and heifers. Cull cows once again met with a superb trade,” Candler added.
