Cull ewes to €180 and fat lambs to €155 at Kilkenny

According to George Candler, a smaller entry went under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart’s sheep sale on Monday, August 15^th, 2022.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that store lambs peaked at €121, while fat types topped out at €155 and cull ewes fetched €180.

Factory lambs – €2.61-€2.98/kg or €110-€140/head:

• 10 47kgs – €139;
• 9 45kgs – €129;

• 5 43kgs – €123.

Store lambs – €1.58-€3.27/kg or €60-€121/head:

• 14 37kgs – €121;
• 23 38kgs – €119;
• 16 39kgs – €116;
• 11 34kgs – €107.

Cattle prices

According to George Candler, “quality” beef and forward store animals showed “little or no change” in price at Thursday’s (August 11^th, 2022) cattle sale at Kilkenny Mart.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that plain bullocks and heifers were “more difficult” to sell due to lack of grass, and there were fewer customers for lighter types.

Some 850 cattle came under the hammer, with prices to €2,310/head in the bullock ring, heifers topped at €2,020 and cull cows peaked at €2.70/kg.

• Beef heifers – €2.20-€2.81/kg or €1,480-€2,020/head;
• Forward store heifers – €1.80-€3.24/kg or €850-€1,620/head;
• Light store heifers – €1.70-€2.72/kg or €500-€1,060/head;
• Bullocks 600kgs+ – €2.00-€3.00/kg or €1,500-€2,310/head;
• 500-600kg bullocks – €1.80-€3.25/kg or €1,000-€1,760/head;
• 400-500kgs – €1.80-€3.08/kg or €660-€1,550/head;
• <400kgs – €1.60-€3.00/kg or €480-€1,070/head.
