‘The balance of power has switched to farmers producing beef’

Kilkenny Mart report – cattle prices – 15-04-2021

According to George Candler, some 1,100 lots went under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart on Thursday, April 15th.

The mart’s auctioneer reported an “excellent” trade for beef and forward store cattle in both the heifer and bullock ring.

“Light store bullocks and heifers were a very steady trade. All Aberdeen-Angus cattle attracted a lot of interest. Cull cows met a phenomenal trade with the €2.00/kg barrier broken on a number of occasions.”

“It now appears that the balance of power has switched to the farmers producing beef and not before time. Supply and demand always rule the roost.”
