Kilkenny Mart – sheep prices – 15-03-2021
Some 250 lots went under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart on Monday, March 15th, according to George Candler.
The mart’s auctioneer reported that numbers are “staying small” with a top call of €174 for 57kg entries. “The want continues with the €174 barrier broken on a few occasions.”

Factory lambs – €3.00-€3.33/kg or €128-€163/head:
- 13 49kg – €163;
- 13 48kg – €157;

Dairy stock
- Freshly calved Friesian cows and heifers – €1,400-€2,440/head.
“The freshly calved Friesian heifers and cows continue to be an excellent trade, but buyers are becoming more selective and will pay in excess of €2,000 for the quality lots. Freshly calved Friesian heifers peaked at €2,440.”

The mart’s auctioneer reported “another exceptionally good trade for both hoggets/lambs with the €170 mark achieved on a number of occasions”.
