‘What will quality store cattle cost when grass starts to appear?’ – Candler

Kilkenny Mart – cattle prices – 10-02-2022

“What will quality store cattle cost when grass starts to appear?” – that is the question George Candler, livestock auctioneer, posed when commenting on trade at Kilkenny Mart’s general cattle sale on Thursday, February 10th, 2022.

He reported another “excellent day’s trading with prices even better in cases, compared to last week’s Rolls Royce of a sale”. A selection of what he described as “top-quality” beef and forward store bullocks saw a price range of €2.50-€3.10/kg.

On the other hand, cull cows attracted a top price of €2,000 for an 845-kilo entry. He reported that continental culls reached €2.46/kg, while Friesians in this ring sold for up to €2.00/kg.

He also added that maiden heifers also met an “excellent” trade.
