Kilkenny Mart – cattle prices – 10-02-2022

“What will quality store cattle cost when grass starts to appear?” – that is the question George Candler, livestock auctioneer, posed when commenting on trade at Kilkenny Mart’s general cattle sale on Thursday, February 10^th, 2022.

He reported another “excellent day’s trading with prices even better in cases, compared to last week’s Rolls Royce of a sale”. A selection of what he described as “top-quality” beef and forward store bullocks saw a price range of €2.50-€3.10/kg.

On the other hand, cull cows attracted a top price of €2,000 for an 845-kilo entry. He reported that continental culls reached €2.46/kg, while Friesians in this ring sold for up to €2.00/kg.

He also added that maiden heifers also met an “excellent” trade.
