Sheep trade ‘more subdued’ compared to last week at Kilkenny Mart

Kilkenny Mart report – calf and sheep prices – 08-06-2021

According to George Candler, some 100 lots went under the hammer at Kilkenny Mart on Tuesday, June 8th, 2021.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that a “mixed selection of calves [were] on offer with top quality lots in short supply”.

“As and on from next week, our calf sale will be held on Monday in conjunction with our sheep sale.”

Kilkenny Mart 08-06-2021:

  • First-rate Friesian bulls – €110-€135/head;
  • Second-rate Friesian bulls – N/A;
  • Continental bulls – €130-€220/head;
  • Continental heifers – €80-€220/head;
  • Aberdeen Angus/Hereford bulls – €100-€340/head;
  • Aberdeen Angus/Hereford heifers – €80-€200/head.

Sheep prices:

According to Candler, some 260 lots were on offer at the mart’s sheep sale on Tuesday, June 8th, 2021.

“A smaller sale of sheep due to the change of day with trade more subdued compared to last week. Butcher-types peaked at €158 with cull ewes to a top of €150,” Candler added.

Butcher lambs – €140-€158/head or €3.10-€3.36/kg:

  • 14 51kgs – €158;
  • 15 50kgs – €158;
  • 24 47kgs – €150;
  • 27 45kgs – €148;
  • 9 44kgs – €148;
  • 25 43kgs – €142.

Factory lambs – €102-€144/head or €2.85-€3.48/kg:

  • 16 42kgs – €144;
  • 8 41kga – €141;
  • 10 40kgs – €139;
  • 17 38kgs – €112;
  • 5 35kgs – €102.

Other categories:

  • Cast ewes – €72-€150/head.

Kilkenny Mart report – sheep sale – 31-05-2021

According to George Candler, a larger entry of sheep met with an easier trade at Kilkenny Mart on Monday, May 31st, 2021.

The mart’s auctioneer reported that most lambs were easier by €3-€8/head compared to the previous week.

“Lambs peaked at €164. Cull ewe prices also reduced by €5 to €8 per head; they peaked at €162/head last week. Top-quality lambs on offer helped to produce a 100% clearance.”

“Our sheep sale next week will be held on Tuesday, June 8th due to the Bank Holiday.”
