Kanturk Mart fat stock sale – cattle prices – 30-11-2021

According to a spokesperson, prices soared to €3,400 at Kanturk Mart’s annual fatstock show and sale on 30-11-2021.

• Supreme champion went to Lot 2015 – BBX – 715kg – €2800 – 3.92pkg – owner Mr Mervyn Busteed, Bandon, Co. Cork.
• Reserve champion went to Lot 2031 – LMX – 765kg – €2500 – 3.26pkg – owner Ms Molly O’ Sullivan, Kiskeam, Co. Cork.
• Best butcher heifer – Lot 2004 – AA – 540kg – €1380 – owner Mr. Jeremiah Lehane, Clonbanin, Mallow.
• The best beef bullock – Lot 2044 – BBX – 1075kg – €3400 – owner – Mr Edmond O’ Connor, Kilbrin, Co. Cork.
• Best beef cow – Lot 2050 – CH – 1045kg – €2860 – owner – Mr Mervyn Busteed, Bandon, Co. Cork.
• Best pen of cattle – Lot 2052 – LM (3) – 655kg – €1940 – Mrs Margaret Lehane, Dromcummer, Kanturk.
• The best pen of AA bullocks – Lot 2061 – AA (4) – 768kg – €1740 – owner Mr David Breen, Clonribbon, Kanturk.
• Best pen of HE bullocks – Lot 2059 – HEX (3) – 678kg – €1500 – owner Mr Kevin O’ Sullivan, Meelin. Best Pen of AA Heifers – Lot 2058 – AAX (4) – 521kg – €1180 – owner Mr Dan O’ Riordan, Farrendoyle, Kanturk.
• Also, the best pen of HE heifers – Lot 2056 – HEX (3) – 656kg – €1410 – owner Mr Kevin O’ Sullivan, Meelin.

Kanturk Mart fat stock sale

Following the sale, a spokesperson said:

“There was a great buzz around the place. We had a fantastic entry of top-class animals and congratulations is due to the exhibitors for the fine specimens of cattle on display.”

“Our judges were Mr Tom O’ Callaghan – Burnfort, Mr George Grant – Co. Offaly & Mr John Kelly – Co. Roscommon.”

“They had a tough job picking from the fine cattle on display today,” the spokesperson added.

Charity auction

In conjunction with its fat stock show & sale, the mart also held a raffle & auctioned a LM bullock in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation & in memory of the late Lindsey Cott.

“We were absolutely delighted to hand over a cheque for the sum of €13,820 to Anne O’ Riordan of the Irish Heart Foundation.”

“We would like to thank everyone that supported this great cause,” the spokesperson concluded.

• 1^st prize – €1000 – Fergal Daly;
• 2^nd prize – €500 – The Forde family;
• 3^rd prize €300 – Ryan Hallihan.
