100% clearance at Kanturk’s opening sale of 2023

Kanturk Mart – Cattle Prices – 10-01-2023

According to Michelle Hallihan, just shy of 300 entries crossed the scales at Kanturk Mart’s opening sale of 2023 on Tuesday, January 10^th.

She reported that prices “held well” at its general weekly sale of cull cows, heifers, and bullocks.

Speaking to That’s Farming, she said:

“We had a few technical difficulties due to disruption from the weather, but despite this, we had 100% clearance.”

“Happy New Year to all our customers. It was great to welcome back our ringside and online customers for our first sale of 2023,” she explained.

Heifer prices:

• AAX – 545kg – €1620;
• HEX – 595kg – €1540;
• 5 AAX – 480kg – €1310;
• 3 HEX – 500kg – €1350;
• 4 HEX – 235kg – €605.

Bullock prices:

• 5 AAX – 576kg – €1660;
• 7 SIX – 540kg – €1520;
• 9 HEX – 540kg – €1470;
• 5 AAX – 500kg – €1430;
• 3 HEX – 473kg – €1250;
• 3 HEX – 430kg – €1090.

Cull cow prices:

• FR – 820kg – €1580;
• FR – 740kg – €1400;
• FR – 685kg – €1340;
• FR – 600kg – €1190.

Weanling heifer prices:

• 6 AAX – 286kg – €700;
• 8 AAX – 270kg – €665;
• 2 HEX – 250kg – €600;
• 2 HEX – 210kg – €500.

Weanling bull prices:

• HEX – 205kg – €565;
• 3 AAX – 160kg – €420;
• 2 AAX – 250kg – €565;
• HEX – 245kg – €585.

2022 cattle prices

According to Michelle Hallihan, Kanturk Mart’s final sale of the year attracted “a great turnout of top-quality cattle”, with 300 entries, including 120 dry cows.

The mart offered prizes for the top-priced cow, the best pen of heifers & bullocks and the best weanling bull & heifer at Tuesday’s sale.

• The top-priced cow was owned by Kieran Lynch, Kilgarvan, LMX – 750kg – €2.82/kg – €2120.
• Meanwhile, the best pen of heifers was owned by Dee O’ Leary, Broadford LMX – 451kg – €2.55/kg – €1150.
• Then, Patrick Kelleher, Macroom owned the best pen of bullocks: CHX – 565kg – €2.58pkg – €1460.
• The best weanling bull was owned by Nora O’Connor, Kiskeam, LM – 290kg – €2.58/kg – €1460.
• The best weanling female was owned by Dan McCarthy, Meelin HEX – 290kg – 2.32/kg – €675.
