VIDEO: Gardaí take on Jerusalema Challenge

Gardaí across Ireland have stepped up to the Jerusalema Challenge and released a video of their efforts.

Members of An Garda Síochána responded to the challenge laid down by Swiss police to “give the public we serve a lift in these challenging times”.

Swiss police claimed that their Irish counterparts would never be able to top the “precision, discipline and perfectionism” on show.

Mary Gardiner, a Tralee-based garda, is among those featured in the video. Footage of the garda dancing to the popular hit, Show me the way to Amarillo, went viral last year.

The video was recorded as part of a fundraiser which supported Irish hospitals and the #DoitForDan campaign, as reported by us.

In a tweet, a Garda spokesperson said: “ We have stepped up to the Swiss police @fedpolCH #JerusalemaChallenge. Gardaí across Ireland answered the call to give the public we serve a lift in these challenging times. #StayTogether #homeStaySafe.”

“Now that An Garda Síochána stepped up to the challenge, the public now have the floor. So, making sure to stay home and in your bubbles. Post your challenge using #GardaJerusalema we want to see what you can do while staying safe. #GardaJerusalema #staysafe #HereToHelp.” the spokesperson concluded.

The global challenge began last February after a group of friends in Angola shot a video of themselves dancing to the song. Will you be next to step up to the challenge and dance to the beat of the South African anthem?
