‘James was a young farmer who unfortunately lost his battle with depression last year’

Friends and family of the late James Cull are preparing to hold their first tractor run next month.

The event is being held on Sunday, October 25th in aid of North West STOP.

“James was a young farmer who unfortunately lost his battle with depression last year.” organisers explained to That’s Farming.

“Over the past year, North West STOP has been beyond good to his friends and family, leaving the organisation very close to their hearts.”

North West STOP

North West STOP is a non-profitable suicide prevention organisation that offers up to 8 free counselling sessions for all ages that cover counties such as Sligo, Longford, Leitrim, Donegal, Roscommon, Cavan, and Mayo.

“STOP receives no government funding, so they rely entirely on donations and the generosity of the public to continue their services.”

“The most important thing about STOP is that there are no waiting lists, so anyone who is needing help will be seen immediately.”

They are also the only organisation in the North West that provide an out-of-hours service, which basically means if you want to see a counsellor in the evening or at the weekends then they can do that!”

“A lot of people don’t prioritise their mental health because of work or family commitments but with STOP, they make it more accessible!”

Tractor run

The run will start at the football pitch in Arigna Co. Roscommon. Registration will be open from 12pm that day, with the run to commence at 2pm.

Participants will venture from Arigna out to Drumkeeran via the main road. They are then set to travel back to Arigna via the Black Banks.

The route is approximately 30 kilometres and will have traffic marshalls on the day, according to organisers.

“Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be various measures in place to ensure the safety of everyone on the day.”

“It’s set to be a sentimental but very memorable day. All welcome, the more the merrier!”
