The Irish Simmental Cattle Society has uploaded its first of a planned bi-weekly online sales catalogue.
The catalogue includes all bulls currently put forward by breeders for sale as if entering a regular sale, according to Society COM, Peadar Glennon.
It includes all evaluation data including maternal and terminal indices along with calving evaluations. The website catalogue also displays images of the animals for sale as well as the seller’s contact details and locations.
Speaking about to That’s Farming, about the new initiative, Glennon said: “Due to the cancellation of all sales, both sellers and buyers needed a facility to trade in pedigree bulls.”
“We are currently in the height of the breeding season on most spring-calving suckler and dairy herds and purchasers who were used of buying at sales wanted some facility to be able to view the pedigrees and evaluations of a number of bulls across a number of herds before making a decision to follow up with the seller.”
Catalogue updated bi-weekly
The Simmental Society will update this catalogue regularly with any new details that become available.
It will upload a new catalogue with another batch of bulls which will be available for sale on a bi-weekly basis.
Breeders with bulls for sale can enter their animals by emailing the society at – [email protected] and are asked to check out the society website here for entry criteria.

“The uncertainty of the current situation is very difficult and stressful on both sellers and buyers and the Simmental Society will assist in whatever way it can to make the process of buying a bull easier.”
“Farmers who need a bull should not delay in the purchase of one as they must try and keep their calving spread tight next spring.”
“Any farmer who is uneasy in travelling to view a bull can contact me directly and I will try and assist where possible,” he concluded.
