Just over 800 lots went under the hammer at Ennis Mart on Tuesday, February 25th, according to a spokesperson.
“Big increase in calf numbers and 75% of these were Friesian bull calves. Farmers would be well advised to sell calves in bunches where they are similar.” the spokesperson added.
Light, poorer calves made from €10-€40, while stronger-types ranged from €60-80; farmers purchased stronger Friesian bulls for €80-€140. Herefords peaked at €280, while continentals climbed to €340.
Suckler pairs reached €2,080, while in-calf stock made to €2,000. “Again, a few dairy stock on offer and generally making €1,200 to €1,400.”
“Again, trade for bulls was very strong, but slightly stickier in the heifer ring back €10/hd on the week.”
