About the mart:

Founded in 1962, Gort Co-operative Mart moved from the town of Gort in 1998 to Ballybawn, where the then Minister for Agriculture, Joe Walsh, officially opened the premises.

The mart serves Galway and Clare, aided by the completion of the M17 to M18 in 2017, which has expanded the mart’s reach to neighbouring counties.

The PRSA and DAFM-licenced business employs twenty-two part-time staff, three self-employed auctioneers and twenty-one committee members who assist voluntarily.

Previously, we interviewed the mart’s current manager, Bernie Fahey, a WIT agricultural science graduate and former accountant and payroll technician, which you can read via this link.
