A 97% clearance was recorded for cull cows at Elphin Mart on Monday (July 27th), according to Gerry Connellan who reported that prices held well.
The average price achieved was €1,324 as entries ranged from €520 to €1890 for a 780 kg BAX.
Sucklers
Prices also held well in the suckler ring, with all entries finding new owners.
Cows with bull calves at foot went under the hammer from €1,310 up to €1,500, while cows with female calves at foot ranged from €1,495 to €1,720.
Heifers
“78% clearance of heifers with good demand for heifers suitable for breeding.”
- 300-400 kg – the average price achieved was €913 with a maximum of €1,030 for a 400 kg Limousin;
- 400-500 kg – the average price achieved was €1,097 with a maximum of €1,410 for a 495 kg Limousin;
- > 500 kg – the average price achieved was €1,309 with a maximum of €1,820 for a 620g Limousin.
Bullocks
“97% clearance of bullocks with quality a bit less.”
- 300-400 kg – the average price achieved was €776 with a maximum of €890 for a 395 kg Limousin;
- 400-500 kg – the average price achieved was €1,071 with a maximum of €1,145 for a 445 kg Charolais;
- > 500 kg – the average price achieved was €1,338 with a maximum of €1,560 for a 675 kg Charolais.
Weanlings
“100% clearance of bull weanlings with prices improved but governed by quality,” Connellan added.
- 300-400 kg – the average price was €843 with a maximum of €900 for a 390 kg Limousin;
- 400-500 kg – the average price achieved was €935 with a maximum of €960 for a 405 kg Charolais.

Ewes recorded a 91% clearance as prices ranged from €30 to €123, while 50% of hoggets found new homes and averaged €170; rams reached €200.
