Farmers sought for free lifestyle education and physical activity programme

Farmers are invited to participate in a free 6-week lifestyle education and physical activity programme.

Male and female farmers (full-time and part-time) over the age of eighteen are eligible to participate in this programme which is being run as a research study in joint collaboration between IT Sligo, True Fitness and the Irish Research Council.

As part of this programme, there will be one health education workshop and two physical activity training sessions per week.

Speaking to That’s Farming, Ruth Kavanagh from True Fitness, said: “The aim is to improve the health and fitness of farmers living in Ireland by educating farmers in a very practical manner on topics such as nutrition and exercise for health, strength and wellness, weight loss (if applicable) and back care due to the prevalence of back issues in farmers.”

“Participants will also receive weekly notes, recipes and home-based exercise circuits and exercise advice where necessary, for farmers with injuries or clinical conditions.”
