Farmers advised to sell livestock at local mart

A farming organisation is advising farmers to sell their livestock at their local mart.

In a notice issued across social media, the Irish Farmers’ Association has supported its statement by pointing out the following benefits:

  • Guaranteed payment;
  • Instant market prices;
  • Ability to choose to sell or hold;
  • Full transparency on AIMS;
  • Finished cattle sales;
  • Option to sell under-fit and over-fit cattle to avoid slaughter penalties.

In encouraging farmers to support their local marts, the farm group has urged mart attendees to “keep your distance – wear a mask. Keep your mart open”.
