Firefighters attended the scene of a large fire that broke out on a farm in Somerset late last night (Friday, February 19th).

Some 300 tonnes of hay and farm equipment were destroyed by the fire, according to a spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service.

In a statement, the spokesperson said: “Fire control have received multiple calls reporting a barn on fire. Currently, crews are on scene from Taunton, Bridgwater and Wellington as well as the water carrier from Bridgwater dealing with this incident.”

The spokesperson provided a further update just before midnight last night.

“6 fire engines are now in attendance at this fire with the additional fire engines coming from Wellington, Ilminster and Bridgwater as well as the incident support unit from Yeovil and a 4 by 4 vehicle.”

Meanwhile, firefighters brought a tractor fire under control in Colyton, in the UK earlier this month.

Units from Colyton joined forces with colleagues from the Honiton division to tackle the blaze which occurred on a farm.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Colyton Fire Station said: “The crew from Colyton joined up with the Honiton team to deal with an agricultural vehicle on fire in Farway.

“They quickly got it under control using both tanks of water from the fire engines.”

The spokesperson added: “Due to isolated locations and narrow access routes, rural fires can take us a while to get to. Always dial 999 as soon as you can to get us on our way and keep away from the fire.”
