Supplies of lamb were tight and demand was high, which was driven by the end of Ramadan as well as the increased demand from the retail sector, according to IFA National Sheep Chairman Sean Denehy.

Dennehy said, “Supplies remain tight with agents told to leave nothing behind, reflecting the strong demand for Ramadan”

Factory prices for ewes this week ranged between €2.70 and €2.90/kg. Last week’s kill consisted of 60% spring lambs and 40% hoggets, with hogget prices ranging between €5.60-€5.70/kg and lambs making €6.20-€6.30/kg.
