Factories are reportedly paying up to €5.70/kg for lambs this week.
Plants are offering between €5.60-€5.70/kg with reports of up to 35c/kg over quotes being paid. €2.65-€2.80/kg is on the table for ewes this week.
IFA national sheep chairman, Sean Dennehy, said “the reality is factories are not able to get lambs at the lower quoted prices and are having to pay a lot more”, as reported by us here.
“The important Muslim festival of Eid Al Adha begins on July 30th and buyers are already trying to put down stock – especially in the UK.”
Last week’s kill
The national sheep kill for the week commencing Monday, June 29th, stood at 60,936 head, according to the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine’s database.
