Texel gimmer leads Enniscrone Livestock’s sale at €3,300

Enniscrone Livestock Sale

A Texel gimmer led Enniscrone Livestock’s MartEye/Mayo Sligo Livestock Mart Elite Summer Belles Sale, which ran from Friday, June 24th, 2022, to June 27th, 2022.

At this price tag of €3,300 was February-2021-born lot 38, a “superb” gimmer with “style, flash and presence” by Enniscrone Donovan.

According to the sales catalogue, this is “one of the best females” Ronan Gallagher has offered for sale, and her dam is by Garngour Aerosmith. He revealed that she is from a “great” flushing family, and is an “ideal” candidate for showing or flushing.

The next best at €1,350 was lot 54, a March-born Edoardo ram lamb, the only Texel ram lamb in the sale. Annaghdown Edoardo’s dam is by Sportsman A Star and is out of a “great” show hogget from 2017.

Lot 44, a “smashing” Charollais ewe lamb, born in January of his year, was next in the price rank at €1,350. Ronan said that the “cracking” ewe lamb is out of Springhill Viper, which has bred “very well” for the Springhill Flock in Northern Ireland, and herself would make an “ideal” candidate for summer shows.

First, at €1,050 was what Gallagher described as a “very powerful” February-2021-born gimmer with “lots of style” (lot 32). She is by Enniscrone Donovan, and the Enniscrone flock acquired her dam from Alastair Gault at the Northern Stars sale in 2018 for £4,200.

At the same price tag was lot 39, a February-2021-born Texel out of Enniscrone Donovan and a ewe the flock acquired from the Tamnamoney flock at the Northern Stars in 2018. According to the sales catalogue, this ewe bred the second top-priced female at Carrick last Christmas at €1,950.

Under €1,000

A number of lots sold for €900 – one of which was 37, a pedigree February-2022-born Suffolk out of The Views V6.

According to Gallagher, this is a “very flashy, modern-style” Suffolk ewe lamb. She is out of a ewe that the flock acquired at the Jalex Jewels sale in January of this year.

At the same price tag was lot 36, a “big, strong, correct and super” Suffolk ewe with “great power and style” out of Cairness Cobra.

Next up at this was lot 49, called ‘take your pick’, which comprised full sisters to the flock’s “lead gimmer” from the “best-breeding lines in the flock”.

According to the sales catalogue, these were offered for sale together, and the successful purchaser can take their pick, with the remaining ewe will remain within the flock.

Lot 59, a “super” shearing ram by Enniscrone Donovan, was next in the ranks at this three-figure sum. The February-2021-born entry has a 4-star terminal rating and 3-stars for replacements and is suitable for pedigree breeding.

€800

A number of lots also changed hands for €800 – one of which was 34, a February-2021-born female out of the 16k Stainton Coca Cola and her dam is by Aerosmith with Enniscrone Sensational in the back pedigree.

Lot 60, a Texel male born in March 2021, with 5-stars for terminal and 3-stars for replacement, was also snapped up for this sum.

The hogget ram, out of Enniscrone Donovan, is a full brother to Enniscrone Ecstatic, which notched up €3,600 in Blessington last year. His dam is a Strathbogie ewe, which was purchased at the Northern Lights in 2019.

Lot 63, an Aber hogget ram – out of a Pedigree Texel ewe and a Blue-Faced Leicester ram with “great power and a great body” – also found a new home at this price tag.
