Heifer trade ‘a shade easier’ in Ennis

According to a spokesperson at Ennis Mart, a slightly smaller entry of just shy of 600 lots passed through the rings at Tuesday’s (May 23^rd, 2023), cattle sale.

The spokesperson reported that the sale saw an increased numbers of calves, with Hereford-crosses making from €150 to €320 and Aberdeen Angus calves selling from €145 to €365.

Meanwhile, Friesian calves ranged from €120 to €265, and continentals maxed out at €560 for a Charolais heifer calf.

Again, a “strong “entry of suckler stock saw pairs hit €2,360 and in-calf lots made to €1,820.

The spokesperson remarked: “A very strong trade prevailed for bull weanlings, with shippers and farmers active in this ring.”

“In the heifer ring, it was all farmer activity and again, some top lots achieving very strong prices. Overall, heifer prices were a shade easier on the previous week,” the spokesperson added.
