Despite adverse weather conditions, just over 600 lots were offered for sale at Ennis Mart on Tuesday, February 11th, according to a spokesperson.
They noted that trade remained very strong but highlighted that some quality lots were available in all rings.
“Calf numbers slightly smaller than expected with Friesian bull calves making from €40 to €100.”
AA calves peaked at €200 and a Charolais bull calf realised €450. “Calves need to be up to 3-weeks-old and well-fed to command strong prices.” the spokesperson added.
Pairs in the suckler ring clicked up to €1,900 and in-calf lots peaked at €1,390.
“A very strong trade in the bull ring with farmers, bull finishers and some export activity and the heifer trade was driven by farmers and specialised feeders.”
