Cows to €3,300 at Ennis Mart’s fatstock sale

According to a spokesperson for Ennis Mart, its annual fat stock show and sale for cows and heifers on Thursday, February 10th, 2022, attracted just over 500 cattle.

They described trade as “exceptional”, with northern demand evident, especially for forward cattle.

“Farmers are to be complemented with the quality of stock on offer. Ten cows and five heifers exceeded to €2,000 mark with a Belgian Blue cow of 890Kgs making €3,300.”

“Aged bulls met a fine trade with a top price of €2,170 for a LM bull of 1,075kgs,” the spokesperson added.

According to a spokesperson, a small entry of weanlings passed through the rings at Ennis Mart on Tuesday, February 8th, 2022.

However, calf numbers increased, with a “good” prevailing for quality entries in this ring.

Speaking following the sale, the spokesperson said: “The weak, young calf was not wanted.”

“Good Friesian bull calves made €100 to €200, while lighter calves made €50 to €100.”

“Aberdeen Angus bull and heifer calves made up to €240. Hereford-cross calves made up to €430 for bulls.”

“Friesian heifers peaked at €250. Continental calves made up to €500. Pairs in the suckler ring made up to €1,780 and in-calf lots made up to €1,700. Quality varied in the bulls and heifers, but overall, they were a strong trade,” the spokesperson added.
