Elphin Mart report – cattle prices – 12-07-2021
According to a spokesperson, cattle sold for up to €2,080 at Elphin Mart on Monday, July 12th, 2021.
The sale topper came in the form of a Charolais cow, weighing 885kgs.
“Numbers remained very strong in the cull cow ring, with a noticeable amount of factory fit cows passing through the ring,” the spokesperson commented.
Elphin Mart 12-07-2021:
- 875kg – CH – €1,990;
- 745kg – LM – €1,780;
- 825kg- CH – €1,860;
- 700kg – CH – €1,700.
Bullock prices:
“We had a strong show of bullocks on Monday evening with a good trade for both stores as well as forward cattle.”
- 500kg – CH – €1480;
- 690kg LM @ €1,900;
- 470kg – CH – €1,400;
- 685kg – LM – €1,820.
Heifer prices:
“Some great quality heifers were on offer, with strong heifers freely making a thousand with their weight.”
- 390kg – CH – €1,140;
- 610kg – CH – €1,690;
- 435kg – CH – €1,200;
- 635kg – BAX – €1,730;
- 720kg – CH – €1,980;
- 740kg – CH – €1940.
Sheep prices
According to the spokesperson, lambs remained “steady” while cull ewes showed some improvement.
“We had a record number of sheep Monday night, with the yard full of 1,200 sheep.”
- 35-40kg made €97-€112;
- 40-45kg made €118-€133;
- 45-50kg made €133-€140;
- Over 50kg made up to €149;
- Cull ewes topped out at €185.

According to a spokesperson, suckler pairs reached €3,000 at Elphin Mart on Monday, July 5th, 2021.
The sale included a special entry of stock from Michael Hanlon, Co Longford, due to a change in farming system.

Speaking following the sale, a spokesperson said:
“We had a good number of cows with calves at foot on offer on the night between purebred and commercial cows.”
“Commercial cows made from €1,440 to €3,000 – depending on the age of the cow and quality of the calf.”
“On the purebred side, some fine teams of cows with calves made up to €2,800. A hand full of maiden purebred heifers made from €920 to €1,380.”
