A February-2021-born Ampertaine Elgin daughter set Carrick Winter Fair alight when she changed hands for €18,000 this evening (Monday, November 22nd, 2021).

Sean Ramsbottom, Timahoe, Co Laois, presented the 433kg Limousin-cross heifer for sale at the Showgrounds in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim.

According to Ramsbottom, the export-tested heifer’s dam has BYU, TVR and CF52 blood. He sold her full brother two weeks ago; 460kgs at €2,530.

That’s Farming understands that she set a new record price for a commercial weanling heifer at auction in the Republic of Ireland.

She was tapped out as top in her class: Limousin female-cross calf 450kgs, or under showing Limousin characteristics.

Also, the heifer became the junior Limousin champion at the Midland & Western Livestock Improvement Society’s LTD annual event.

VIDEO: €10,000 for in-calf heifer at O’Connor’s annual sale

The news comes just weeks after Martin O’Connor set a new record price of €10,000 for a commercial in-calf heifer at an auction in the Republic of Ireland.

Lot 23A, a four-star Limousin-cross-Belgian Blue, heifer smashed last year’s record price of €9,000 at Elphin Mart on Friday, November 5th, 2021.

The October-2018-born 965kg heifer is a half-bred Limousin with 25% Belgian-Blue influence and 18.75% Friesian and 6.25% Holstein Friesian blood.

Furthermore, she is by Thomastown I 1337, a son of Bavardage / AGB, and her dam is by BBQ.

She sold scanned in-calf to Loyal and is due on December 29th, 2021.

A selection of Simmental-cross-Charolais, Belgian-Blue-cross-Limousins, Limousin-cross-Simmentals, and Charolais-cross-Limousins came under the hammer.

O’Connor sourced over 60% of heifers for this year’s sale directly from farms, with the remainder in marts.
