Vintage tractors travelling the length of Ireland in two days for charity

Two teams of vintage pre-1992 tractors are taking to the roads today (Friday, August 5th) and tomorrow, Saturday (August 6th) to travel the length of Ireland for charity.

Dunmore Vintage Club’s Cannonball: MalinVMizen is a charity tractor run that will travel through 11 counties on an “epic” race the length of Ireland.

One team will start from Malin Head in County Donegal, while the other team will set off from Mizen Head in County Cork.

Both teams will go head-to-head in a “dramatic” race to the finish line in The Square, Dunmore, County Galway, where Dunmore Annual Festival will hold a finish line finale party in the square.

Dunmore Vintage Club is raising money for Autism Ireland, and the public can make donations online through GoFundMe.

A spokesperson for Dunmore Vintage Club told That’s Farming editor, Catherina Cunnane:

“The two teams of tractors will hit the diff and pray that they get all the way to achieve their 330km journeys back to Dunmore.”

“They will not exactly be flat to the mat as each team must travel behind a 25kmph pace tractor.”

“However, we will have the party hats on as we watch their progress throughout the day from the big screen in the square in Dunmore,” the spokesperson concluded.

A race against the clock

Team Malin will travel through Donegal, Derry, Tyrone, Fermanagh, Leitrim, Sligo and Mayo into Dunmore in County Galway.

On the other hand, Team Mizen will travel from Cork through Limerick, Clare and into Galway to Dunmore.

The clock will count down the minutes to see which team, Malin or Mizen, will cross the finish line first.

Keeping crowds entertained in Dunmore will be Rachel Mae Hannon, who will take to the stage at 7 pm.

The band, Sum Craic, will follow on stage afterwards at 8 pm with some “knee-slapping” tunes.

The spokesperson concluded:

“You can place your bets at the tote as to which team will be the first to see the checkered flag waved. All proceeds raised will go to Autism Ireland.”

“If you cannot make it to Dunmore, please come and support both teams as they pass through the towns and villages en route.”
