Driver hospitalised after tractor and trailer overturn

The driver of a tractor and trailer was hospitalised yesterday afternoon (Thursday, July 1st) after the machines overturned near Dorchester.

Fire services and the emergency services attended the scene of the accident in Martinstown shortly after lunchtime.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said:

“Crews have attended an incident involving a tractor and trailer that has rolled.”

“The driver was conveyed to hospital by ambulance, and the fire service made the scene safe,” the spokesperson added.

Teen (16) dies following farm accident

Meanwhile, across the waters in Co Tipperary, a teenager has died following a farm accident.

According to local media, the 16-year-old had been on life-support following a fall from a quad on Monday, June 28th, 2021.

Confirming the news to That’s Farming, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána, said:

“Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of an incident in which a male juvenile aged in his late teens was injured at a premises in Newport, Co Tipperary on the 28th of June 2021.”

“The male was removed to University Hospital Limerick following the incident for treatment, where he later passed away.”

“His body has now been removed to UHL Morgue where a post-mortem will be conducted.”

“The scene is currently preserved, and the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified. Investigations are ongoing,” the spokesperson concluded.

Man (30s) dies after falling into slurry pit

Last month, a man, aged in his 30s, died after falling into a slurry pit on a farm in Derbyshire.

The incident occurred near Elton before 8pm on Monday, June 14th, 2021.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Derbyshire Police, said: “We were called just before 8pm on 14 June by our colleagues in the fire service, who reported that a man had fallen into a slurry pit at a farm near Elton.

“The man, who was in his 30s, was taken to hospital but sadly died. We contacted the Health and Safety Executive and are preparing a file for the coroner,” the spokesperson added.
