Tractor sales remain at normal level despite Covid-19

The Farm Tractor and Machinery Trade Association (FTMTA) have released an updated list of new tractor registrations in 2020.

Despite the financial impact of COVID-19, the FTMTA found that there were only two fewer tractor registrations in March than in the corresponding month of 2019.

A spokesperson for the association said: “Last month, saw 238 new tractors registered, bringing the total for the first quarter to 896 units, which is exactly the same level as at the end of March 2019.”

“In reality, retail activity at farm machinery dealerships was continuing relatively normally, albeit with precautions in place, until the restrictions announced by the Taoiseach on Friday, March 27th and the wider situation is unlikely to have had much of a bearing on March registrations of tractors.”

The counties with the highest number of registrations in the first quarter of 2020 are Cork (133), Wexford (63) and Tipperary (60).
