Cull cows hold steady at Elphin

There was a full clearance recorded in the cull cow ring at Ennis Mart on Monday, February 10th, according to Gerry Connellan.

The mart manager reported that prices were steady, as entries sold to an average of €1,207 and ranged from €400-€1,625 for an 825kg Charolais.

Suckler entries

All suckler pairings found new homes, with an average price of €1,255 achieved and a top call of €1,340 recorded for an Angus cow with a bull calf at foot.

Purebred un-haltered sale

Males:

  • 400-500 kg – the average price achieved was €1,075 with a maximum of €1,150 for Simmental 490kg;
  • >500 kg – the average price achieved was €1,794 with a maximum of €2,600 for an 805 kg Charolais.

Females:

  •  >500 kg The average price achieved was €1,448 with maximum price of €1,500 for a 745 kg Aberdeen-Angus. 

Bull weanlings

“We had a 100% clearance of male weanlings with prices governed by quality.”

  • <300 kg – the average price was €808 with a maximum of €965 for a 295kg Charolais;
  • 300-400kg – the average price was €888 with a maximum of €1,015 for a 360 kg Charolais;
  • 400-500 kg – the average price achieved was €865 with a maximum of €960 for a 465 kg Limousin.

Heifer weanlings

“We had a 100% clearance of female weanlings with prices governed by quality.”

  • 300 kg – the average price achieved was €737 with a maximum of €750 for a 300 kg Charolais;
  • 300-400 kg – the average price achieved was €871 with a maximum of €1,020 for a 400 kg Charolais.

Sheep

“A 100% clearance of lambs with prices steady. A 100% clearance of ewes ranged in price from €50-€147.” Connellan explained.

Lambs:

52.5 kg – €136;

  • 49.5 kg – €130;
  • 45.5 kg – €115.50;
  • 41.5 kg – €110;
  • 36 kg – €88.
