Cow defies 100,000 to 1 odds

A lucky farmer in Corrandulla, Co. Galway, got the surprise of his life recently when one of his cows gave birth to a set of triplets.

“It was unbelievable” were the words of owner Aidan Nally as he spoke to That’s Farming about his Belgian Blue cow and Charolais calves.

Triplets

Aidan was out checking his cows in the morning and noticed that one of them had calved. He decided to give her some time before going intervening, so he went back to the house for a cup of tea.

“Then I went back out to look at her and there was a second calf and I thought to myself ‘that’s absolutely mighty’. So, I left her for another while and came back and decided I would move them out,” he explained.

“Next thing I looked over the barrier and there was another calf. I was looking around to see if it was another cow that had calved.”

The Corrandulla man said he was delighted with his three Charolais calves.

After calving unassisted, Nally reported: “The cow is great and the calves are flying it. They’re all a good size.”

“It’s one in every 100,000 cows that has triplets, it’s crazy,” Nally concluded.
