Sheep shearing falls under the care of animals and, therefore, there are no restrictions during the current health crisis.

The Irish Sheep Shearers’ Association (ISSA) received confirmation from the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed in relation to the matter.

In a post on social media, a spokesperson said: “The ISSA hope to get official clearance regarding shearing during the Covid-19 travel restrictions, in writing, so that we can supply our members with an official letter in case they are stopped by the Gardaí.”

It has also been confirmed that due to Covid-19, the Lister All-Ireland Shearing and Woolhandling Championships, due to take place in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal, has been postponed until 2021.
