Covid-19: Farmers being questioned by police

Farmers and agricultural employees in the north of Ireland have been questioned by police as they travel to their place of work or to undertake farm-related tasks, according to the Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU).

The farm organisation has advised all farmers to carry some form of identification with them that will prove their journey is for essential work if they are questioned. This type of identification could be a letterhead, business card or other farm business-related documentation.

In response to this issue, the UFU has produced pro-forma letters for agri-related businesses to issue to employers whose commute to work is essential.
