Delivery drivers being denied access to toilets and hand-washing facilities

The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) has responded to concerns raised about drivers using welfare facilities at customer sites.

Problems were arising from drivers not having access to facilities such as toilets and handwashing facilities when delivering or collecting goods.

In response to these concerns, a spokesperson for HSENI said: “In the midst of the current Covid-19 situation, it is particularly important that drivers have access to welfare facilities in the premises they visit as part of their work. The welfare of all workers is a priority and that includes drivers.”

“HSENI recognises that the majority of duty holders do already provide reasonable access to welfare facilities (toilets and handwashing facilities).”
