A Monaghan-based livestock mart has made modifications to its sales ring and rostrum, following an incident involving an animal earlier this summer.
Back in June, a video of a Charolais-cross heifer climbing onto the rostrum, where three people were standing, at Clones Livestock Mart was widely circulated across social media.
The mart, which is managed by Sean Cadden, confirmed that no one was injured in the incident, which prompted it to enhance health and safety features on the premises.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the mart said:
“After our animal episode a few weeks back and while it was the first time in 50 + years for something like this to happen, we wanted to make sure it never happened again.”
“So, for the safety of our staff and customers, we raised the rostrum by 12 inches, protected it with a high bar and put a higher bar right around the ring.”
