CLAAS opens new warehouse to serve Ireland and the UK

Restrictions due to the outbreak of the coronavirus has meant that the supply of parts to agricultural machinery dealers and customers has become increasingly difficult.

CLAAS owners in both the U.K. and Ireland will now be able to benefit from a new parts warehouse which has recently been established in Saxham, Suffolk.

The new building is part of the second phase of the complete redevelopment of the CLAAS UK headquarters, which is nearing completion. CLAAS has stated that the new storage facility was needed as a result of the increase of business over the last few years.

The new building has a floor area of 4,336 square meters, which is equivalent to 17 tennis courts, and a total capacity of 42,000 cubic metres. This facility can accommodate the 47,000 line-items or 850,000 individual parts that are held in stock.

All parts are identified and located using a scan and bar code system and a new ‘serpentine’ row system has been installed to provide improved pick rate accuracy and efficiency.

The secure customs area, which processes airfreight to Ireland, has been doubled along, giving greater efficiency and increased flow rate of parts through the building.

The opening of this new parts warehouse follows the recent expansion of the worldwide CLAAS Parts Logistics Centre, located at Hamm, Germany. The new warehouse currently employs 490 staff that work all around the clock to ensure the distribution of parts around the world remains at a high level during the current crisis.
