Jeep driver (40) towing trailer dies in single-vehicle crash

A man (40s) has died following a single-vehicle road traffic crash involving a jeep towing a trailer in Co Clare.

The fatal road traffic collision occurred on the N18, Bunratty, this afternoon (Friday, October 15th, 2021).

In a statement to That’s Farming, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said:

“Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision that occurred in Co. Clare this afternoon.”

“At approximately 2:10 pm, Gardaí received reports of single vehicle road traffic collision involving a jeep towing a trailer, on the N18, Bunratty, Co. Clare.”

“A man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem will take place at a later date.”

“The road is currently closed, and local diversions are in place. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators is currently conducting a technical examination.”

Appeal for witnesses

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

They are particularly appealing to any road users who were travelling on this road at the time with camera footage to make this available to them.

Cavan farm accident

Meanwhile, a farm accident in Co Cavan has claimed the life of a man in his late 30s.

The incident occurred in Shercock on Monday morning (October 11th, 2021).

In a statement to That’s Farming, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said:

“Gardaí in Shercock were alerted to an incident on Monday, October 11th, 2021 at approximately 9.30 pm in Shercock, Co.Cavan.”

“Upon arrival of Gardaí, a man (late 30s) was located deceased at the location. The man’s body was later removed to the mortuary at Cavan General Hospital to allow for a post-mortem to take place.”

“Furthermore, the Health and Safety Authority has been notified and will conduct their own investigations.”
