Continued demand for cattle in Raphoe with highs of €1,685 over

Raphoe Mart – Cattle Prices – 01-06-2023

According to Ann Harkin, manager at Raphoe Mart, there was continued demand for stock at this week’s cattle sale, with trade “similar to that seen in previous weeks”.

Strong, forward cattle sold from €2.60/kg to €3.20/kg, while medium weights ranged from €2.70/kg to €3.40/kg, and lighter weights changed hands from €2.70/kg to €3.80/kg.

Aberdeen Angus cattle fetched from €2.30/kg to €3/kg, while Friesian cattle went under the hammer from €2/kg to €2.60/kg.

  • Bulls/Bullocks made from €2.30/kg to €3.40/kg;
  • Heifers fetched from €2.40/kg to €3.80/kg;
  • Fat cows ranged from €970/head to €2180/head.

Summary:

  • Bulls over 600kgs – €1060 to €1685 over the weight;
  • Beef bullocks – €765 to €1005 over the weight;
  • Store bullocks – €420 to €955 over the weight;
  • Beef heifers – €875 to €1095 over the weight;
  • Store heifers – €305 to €1140 over the weight.

This week’s sheep prices

Spring lambs sold to €168, while hoggets topped out at €170/head and fat ewes hit €240/head at Monday’s sheep sale at Raphoe Mart.

Spring lamb prices:

  • €100 to €140 for 32-38kgs;
  • €140 to €160 for 39-42kgs;
  • €160 to €168 for 43-55kgs.

Other categories:

  • Hoggets sold from €100/head to €170/head;
  • Fat ewes made from €80/head to a high of €240/head.
Previous week’s cattle prices

According to Ann Harkin, “trade remained on par with that of previous weeks” at Raphoe Mart on Thursday, May 25th, 2023.

The mart manager reported that demand “continued for stock”, with prices from €435 over the kg to €1,440 over the weight.

Strong forward cattle ranged from €2.60/kg to €3.40/kg, while medium weights sold from €2.60/kg to €3.50/kg.

Lighter weights fetched from €2.60/kg to €3.80/kg, Aberdeen Angus cattle sold from €2.20/kg to €3/kg, and Friesian cattle varied from €1.80/kg to €2.40/kg.

Bulls/bullocks ranged from €2.50/kg to €3.50/kg, while heifers pushed from €2.60/kg to €3.80/kg, and cull cows went under the hammer from €1130/head to €1980/head.
