Prices from €5 to €2,550 in Castlerea – Egan

Castlerea Mart – Cattle Prices – 18-05-2023

According to Brendan Egan, some 600 animals came under the hammer at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, May 18^th, 2023, writes farming journalist, Catherina Cunnane.

The mart manager reported that with improved weather conditions and grass growth, trade “remained very strong”.

Bullocks topped out at €1950, heifers reached €1980, while dry cows peaked at €2550 at the mart’s most recent cattle sale.

Egan said: “The weanling rings recorded good clearances with extra farmer activity resulting in a very good trade, especially for the quality lots.”

“Cows with calves at foot made up to €2920, while the calf ring, with good numbers on offer, witnessed a good clearance,” Egan added.

• The number of calves presented for sale “remained good” for the time of year, with “good” demand, especially for the quality calves, Egan reported. Prices ranged from €5 to €410 for continentals.
