Northern buyers, exporters, and farmers drive trade at Castlerea Mart

Castlerea Mart – cattle prices – 25-03-2021

Farmers, exporters and Northern demand drove the trade at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, March 25th, 2021, according to Brendan Egan.

The mart manager reported that the heifer ring saw prices peak at €3.03 a kilo, while the weanling rings reported good clearances as farmers were “anxious this week to source stock”.

“Numbers of stock presented for sale continue to grow as trade and prices are holding very strong again this week. The dry cow trade and breeding stock are also in strong demand while the calf trade was good for the quality lots.”

Castlerea Mart report – cattle prices – 18-03-2021

A large entry went under the hammer at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, March 18th, 2021, according to Brendan Egan.

The mart manager noted that ‘grass’ buyers were out in force in an attempt to secure stock for summer feeding.

Bullocks peaked at €2.61/kg, while heifers sold to €2.94/kg with northern demand evident in both rings.

“Weanlings continue to be a fine trade also with the quality weanling heifers, in particular, reaching €4.24/kg.”

“The dry cow trade continues to witness strong demand with prices peaking at €2.18/kg. With good numbers on offer, the calf trade remained good – depending on the quality of the lots on offer. Plainer dairy-cross lots remain hard sold.” Egan added.
