Prices from €5 to €2,650 at Castlerea – Egan

Castlerea Mart – Cattle Prices – 20-04-2023

According to Brendan Egan, larger numbers of stock came under the hammer at Castlerea Mart’s general cattle sale on Thursday, April 20th, 2023.

The heifer ring, the mart manager reported, noticed prices maintained on the previous week for top quality lots, with highs of €2,010, but plainer, low-weight stock tended to be “a little easier”.

The dry cow trade remained unchanged, with what Egan described as a “very good” trade for both heavier lots and feeder cows, while cows with calves at foot peaked at €2,650.

The calf ring reported a “good” clearance with a variance in price, depending on quality, with returns from €5/head upwards.

Meanwhile, the weanling rings saw “strong” farmer demand as well as exporters and feeders, with top-quality lots exceeding €4.00/kg, while heifer weanling maxed out at €4.63/kg.
