Plainer dairy-cross calves ‘a harder sell’ at Castlerea

Castlerea Mart report – cattle prices – 17-02-2022

According to Brendan Egan, large numbers of stock turned out for Castlerea Mart on Thursday, February 17th, 2022.

The mart manager reported that the sale attracted a “good” attendance of buyers (both ringside and online) trying to source stock for further feeding.

“The heifer ring reported a very strong trade with a top price of €2,070 for a 620kgs Charolais-cross and a good clearance recorded.”

“The bullock ring saw the lighter quality stores peak at €3.11/kg, with heavier lots making up to €1,800.”

“The forward dry cows saw prices peak at €2.61/kg, while the store cows were in strong demand also.”

“Breeding stock made up to €2,020, while the weanling rings witnessed heifers peak at €3.48/kg with bulls to €3.20/kg.”

“Calves made up to €470, but the plainer dairy-cross calves were a harder sell this week,” Egan added.
