Castlerea Mart – Cattle Prices – 13-10-2022
According to Brendan Egan, some 800 lots crossed the scales at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, October 13th, 2022.
The mart manager reported overall, trade “remained firm” in all rings at its most recent general cattle sale.
Firstly the cow trade, with bigger numbers on offer, was similar to last week, with a good clearance taking place.
Meanwhile, breeding stock and runners witnessed increased farmer activity.
The heifer ring reported a similar trade to previous weeks with a “good” attendance of buyers present as well as online, and northern activity resulting in a “good” clearance.
The weanling rings noticed “very strong” demand this week for “quality” calves, with bulls to €3.78/kg, and heifers to €4.56/kg.

Suckler pairs, calves and runners:
- Cows with calves at foot made from €940 to €2050;
- Springers sold for up to €1620;
- Young calves went under the hammer from €150 to €310, while runners ranged from €300 to €820 for continentals.

According to Egan, just over 300 bullocks changed hands at its sale on Monday, October 10th, 2022.
He reported that “a lot of top quality stores were presented for sale and sellers were very satisfied with an excellent trade”.
“Top quality stores made up to €3.65/kg, while heavier lots made up to €2040,” Egan remarked.
