Dry cows to €2,780 & suckler pairs to €2,400 at Castlerea

Castlerea Mart Report – 12-01-2023 – Cattle Prices

According to Brendan Egan, over 400 animals came under the hammer at Castlerea Mart’s opening sale of 2023 on Thursday, January 12^th.

The mart manager reported that trade “started off very brightly as the strong pre-Christmas returns maintained and, in some cases, improved”.

The heifer ring witnessed prices soar to €2,470 while the weanling rings saw bulls make up to €3.82/kg and heifer weanlings topped out at €4.52/kg.

The bullock ring witnessed “strong” demand for stores, with lots to €3.60 a kilo and heavier types to €2,000.

Springer cows topped out at €1900, while cows with calves at foot peaked at €2,400, and the dry cow trade saw prices peak at €2,780.
