More farmer activity driving trade at Castlerea Mart

Castlerea Mart report – cattle prices – 03-06-2021

According to Brendan Egan, there was increased farmer activity at Castlerea Mart on Thursday, June 3rd, 2012.

The mart manager reported that top-quality lots peaked at €2.59/kg at the mart’s most recent general cattle sale.

“In the heifer ring, prices peaked at €3.10 a kilo with an excellent trade this week helped by the better-quality stock on offer and increased farmer activity also.”

“The weanling rings reported a good clearance with a variance in price – depending on quality – a Charolais bull 340kgs fetched €1,380 or €4.05 a kilo.”

“Heifer weanlings reported a good clearance with prices peaking at 2.90 a kilo. The demand for cows with calves at foot remain strong also with €1,980 paid for a 9-year-old Charolais cow and her bull calf at foot.”

“Dry cows were a lively trade this week with prices peaking at €2.33/kg. The calf trade, with good numbers on offer, was similar to last week,” Egan added.
