Over 100 lots are catalogued for this year’s Carrick Christmas Belles sale, which takes place at The Showgrounds, Carrick-on-Shannon, next week.
The primary sale hosts, Enniscrone Livestock and Clew Bay Texels, have joined forces with guest consigners, the Brideswell and Carnaculla flocks, for the sale on Wednesday, December 28th, 2022.
Speaking ahead of the sale, Ronan Gallagher MVB, the proprietor of Pro Star Genetics, told That’s Farming:
“There will be 60 in-lamb ewes from Enniscrone, Clewbay and our new guests, Brideswell and Carnaculla Texels. There will also be a large selection of ewe lambs from Enniscrone.”
“Similar to previous years, we will have some ET pedigree Suffolk lambs with their recipient dams.”
The sale will feature 19 Texel ewe lambs – 14 from Enniscrone and 5 from Brideswell.
15 pedigree Suffolk embryo lambs with their recipient dams, along with 3 pedigree Suffolk gimmers, all scanned in-lamb, will also come under the hammer.
There will also be 5 Sufftex ewe lambs – progeny of a pedigree Suffolk ewe and a pedigree Texel ram.
According to Gallagher, these will be “ideal ewe lambs to feed on for potential showing next summer”.
Gallagher continued, “We have an impressive bunch of Texel ewes on offer this year. They are all sired by Stainton Coca-Cola, Garngour Aerosmith and Enniscrone Donovan.”
“They are all scanned in-lamb to our exciting new stock ram – Clara Fandango, the €13,000 Blessington champion this year.”
“To mark our 30-year anniversary breeding Texels, we are offering our complete crop of 2021 gimmers for sale with some crackers among them. Enniscrone will have up to 35 gimmers and ewes and a large selection of ewe lambs available.”
Charity auction and raffle
The flock will auction off a pedigree Texel ewe lamb for charity, and will also hold a raffle with an array of prizes kindly sponsored by companies to raise funds for North-West Hospice.
Stock judging competition
Also, to mark its 30th anniversary, Enniscrone Livestock will play host to a special stock judging competition for young sheep enthusiasts under 25 years of age.
Each entrant will automatically receive a complimentary €50 voucher towards the purchase of a sheep on the day
The prizes are as follows
- 1st: 1 free flush with Prostar Genetics;
- 2nd: Semen from Clara Fandango for a flush;
- 3rd: €200 voucher for Prostar Genetics.
